G Suite Overview

The cost according to the size of your company: I believe that G Suite wins, which allows you to contract your services month by month or all year round at one time. However, as far as I know, Office forces you to hire the whole year. G Suite is much simpler to offer you two plans, while Office offers you 6 plans, 3 for small or medium businesses and 3 for large companies. The most economical plan of Office only offers Exchange, Skype and onedrive for a cost of 5 dollars per user per month.

GSuite's most immediate competitor is office 365.

The decision is more aimed at staying with Microsoft or migrating to Google, as Office came to us in 1990 and Google apps in 2007. Microsoft has been more oriented to work as software on our desktops while Google has focused on working since The cloud, however both can work online and offline with synchronization options.

Before giving my opinion, I decided to look for comparisons. Many of them are very biased towards either side. It depends on the side of which they are partner or affiliate and that is not ideal. However, I did find a fairly relevant pair. But first of all, I can give you my opinion based on my experience without being an expert in technology.

The next immediate plan (office 365 company) costs $ 12.65 per user per month and offers you the most basic software: word, excel, power point, one note, etc. In conclusion, choose G Suite if you are starting, it is simpler and will adjust more to the needs of your small or medium business. Do you have a great company? Consider then the various plans of Office.

Software Maintenance Costs

Evaluates the pros and cons of having everything in the cloud and leaving free software equipment. For example for employees who travel constantly will be useful to have G Suite and work from the cloud, but large companies that have a solid computer department with their own equipment and their staff in office, opt for the office solution.

Resistance to change

One of the goals of Google is to get G Suite to more state-owned companies, and is that many of them around the world are with Office, why? Eye. Here I am generalizing by what I see in Colombia. I will tell you that state companies retain older people than private organizations, which makes them reluctant to change Office that has been the tool they have seen all their lives. They are accustomed to start, programs, Word and not to click on explorer, applications, docs.

Compare your apps for each department

Maybe a salesperson in your company prefers Gmail for its simplicity, but the developer probably prefers Excel over Google spreadsheets. What am I telling you here? Consider contracting both services according to the needs of the departments of your company, because not necessarily all use all applications of one or the other. Making a proper diagnosis of what they need can bring savings in costs.

Integration with other software

The integration of Office or G-Suite is an aspect to consider depending on the level of maturity of the organization. I would venture to say that Office by seniority has more integration options with other software, although Google works to eliminate that.

In conclusion, evaluate your budget and the staff's willingness to start using one tool or migrate to the use of another. At a general level, G Suite at the moment is more accessible for small or medium companies for its cost and simplicity. Office 365 is suitable for large and complex organizations. What are the needs of your staff? Diagnose the preferences of the staff towards one or another option next to the activities they perform, which will give information to consider a hybrid between Office and G Suite.

The study was aimed at 7 medium-sized companies that had previously used other cloud solutions and were now using G suite (google apps at the time).
